An update and progress report of the development of the Lake Campus CCM program:
As many of you know, Wright State University in Dayton has a CCM program already in place as a student organization. To help create Catholic Campus Ministries here at the Lake Campus, we are using their resources and help in starting a CCM group here. The Dayton group has been a great help thanks to Jenna Legg and Fr. Ed Burns.
The CCM Lake group is currently havingweekly meetings on Thursdays from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. This day and time is set for the Fall Semester and will probably change for Spring Semester. We have a president, Shannon Hess, and a treasurer, John Barga. It is a small group who attend the meetings but others have expressed interest. The meetings do not work in their schedule so we are keeping them informed through email. Currently we have 14 student members.
We are in the process of finishing with administration requirements for the group such as bylaws and a budget. From here we are hoping to be able to concentrate on Bible study, Catholic teaching, fellowship, events for outreach, etc. If there are any suggestions or ideas for CCM to help us strengthen our Catholic faith we would like to hear from you. If there is anyone who would like to be part of any of meetings, please contact us.
Some activities we have already participated in are live streaming the Pope’s address to Congress in a room here on campus for anyone who was interested in listening to the Pope speak. We also just finished participating in Hunger Cup which is a competition between Wright State University and the University of Dayton to collect food for food pantries. The Dayton campus asked the Lake to participate this year and all food collected at the Lake will go to the local pantries in this area. We have collected 529 pounds, or 637 items which will go to C.A.L.L. food pantry.
All CCM members will have the opportunity to participate in a fall retreat at the end of October and then again in the spring. Once again, the Dayton Chapter of CCM has been participating for many years and now has asked the Lake to join them on these retreats.
Fr. Barry Stechschulte of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys has generously offered some time to be on campus for any student who may need or want to talk or even hear confession. Details are still pending.
We want to thank everyone for their support and prayers for this group.
